If it's the start of the semester, then sure as anything, my students will be completing the Marshmallow Challenge! *Find out more about the challenge here.
This semester I did the challenge with both of my Psychology classes but also a special class of 9th grade students. I thought that the results were particularly interesting and were insightful into the motivations of my students.
My 2nd period class was really odd! All but one group had a standing structure. That's pretty odd because sometimes I've had most of the groups fail to produce something that can stand. The other odd thing was that the winner for the class was only 10.5 inches. That's shorter than usual.

My 5th period class, in my opinion, fit the mold of high achievers. Why, you might ask? Because only one group was able to produce a standing structure! Theirs was 15 inches tall.
My 9th graders were in three groups. Two were able to complete the challenge. Their structures measured 19 and 21 inches! Why were their structures taller? I would love to hear your theories in the comments.
